Patrick Groenewegen

Patrick is the director of the Ithaka Academy, where he works to offer newcomers in the Netherlands prospects for employment and development. Convinced that talent knows no bounds, he works on initiatives that create job opportunities and help people find their place in Dutch society. Interview

Patrick, do you believe in world peace, and if so, where does this belief come from?
Yes, I do. It comes from a deep knowing that we are in a dimension where we think it isn't possible, and that we are moving toward the dimension where we see it is.

Do you have an idea how we can achieve peace?
By connecting people who believe in this. By building bridges that connect islands. Through small initiatives where people practice peace and inspire others. Eating together and being together. Showing how wonderful collaboration is and what its results are.

Do you believe we can inspire people for the GPB Program?
Yes. By having the courage to connect the big picture with small initiatives and inviting people to step out of their fear.

Will you participate in the Global Peacebuilding Program yourself?
Yes, I attended the Kick-Start of the Program, so I'm already participating.

What is your intrinsic motivation to participate?
I work with people who experience the consequences of war daily. I see that these people, refugees, do not exhibit victim behavior. They are resilient and incredibly intrinsically motivated to shape their lives and not let the war define them. And with this, I see them moving to the other dimension. These people feel they are here for a reason. A turtle lays its eggs on the beach. At the right moment, all the newborns walk into the sea. The water is alluring because it is where they belong. People always do their best to find the best place. This is why I believe in peace.

Have you already made the mindset transformation yourself?
For me, it's a process in which I gradually delve deeper.

Why do you believe in me, my approach, my program, and my role as a trainer?
I intuitively feel that it's right. You don't even want to hear other arguments and are very consistent in your approach.

What is your role in achieving world peace?
I've joined the Global Serendipity Foundation's Council of Inspiration to support you in achieving your goals.

What advice would you give others?
Ask yourself what you can do today. How can you take a peaceful initiative in your community?
